High John the Conqueror, sometimes referred to as Johnny Conker, is a well-known, light-hearted, trickster spirit in the American South. He was an African prince, was sold into slavery, and won his freedom by tricking his slave master. He left his soul inside every single High John Root so that those who give him service and work with him, in the form of his root, can be granted victory in every situation.
